Angels on the Bench

Imagine Trumbo's bat protecting Evan Longoria in 2012.

Wednesday afternoon, Angels first baseman Kendrys Morales signed a one year deal for just shy of $3M. This raises the question of Mark Trumbo. With Albert Pujols carved into the Opening Day lineup in stone, who is the DH? Is there a platoon in order? Is Morales going to sit on the bench for awhile considering he hasn't played since breaking his left ankle jumping on home plate celebrating a walk- off grand slam in May of 2010? Is Trumbo going to spell both on a twice weekly basis? Is Trumbo on his way out of town?

In my opinion, all three of these bats are too talented to be taking up space on the bench. Before going down, Morales was arguably the best hitter in all of Los Angeles, Mark Trumbo hit 29 homers last season, and The Machine's track record speaks for itself.

Perhaps some of the bullpen help that the Angels are looking for could come in the form of the trade of Trumbo or Morales. Either that or they could have a premier pinch-hitter in one of the two. That being said, it would be a damn shame if one of those bats are stuck on the bench for the next 3-6 months.

For the love of baseball, Arte Moreno needs to get on the phone. Perhaps with Tampa Bay.
